Elected District Judge of Mobile County on November 4, 1986 and took oath of office on January 20, 1987. Re-elected District Judge in November, 1992, 1998 and 2004 without opposition. In the fall of 1993, Judge McMaken was also assigned regular Circuit Court duty as Judge of the Mobile Drug Court and has presided over Drug Court cases in addition to his duties in the District Court since that time.
PRACTICE OF LAW:
- Assistant District Attorney in the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office until January 17, 1977.
- Assistant District Attorney in the Mobile County District Attorney's Office from January 1977 through March 1979.
- Fall 1977 to Summer 1979 taught University of South Alabama in the Criminal Justice Division of the Political Science Department.
- 1979 - 1987, Sole practitioner in general law practice in criminal and civil matters.
- Represented Mobile County Department of Human Resources, and the State of Alabama as a Special Assistant Attorney General from 1979 through 1986:
- representation of the Mobile County Department of Human Resources (Child Welfare and Adult Protective Services) which cases were almost exclusively child custody actions involving abused and neglected children;
- Welfare Fraud cases for the Attorney General's Office; and
- writing appellate briefs for the State in appeals to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.
- November 1971 to September 1972, Assistant to the National Marketing Manager Plastics Films Marketing Division of ICI AMERICA (subsidiary of IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES), Stamford, Connecticut, and Wilmington, Delaware.
